Amsterdam, Nijmegen and Train photography

As I have posted yesterday, we were going to Nijmegen, a city to the south east from Amsterdam, where we wanted to visit one BJD (Ball Joint Dolls) shop to check what they have. I have also mentioned that we are going to take our camera with us and come up with few pics. While we ended up not in a mood of shooting much, there are few pics of Nijmegen on my flickr here, as well as few pics on instagram both by me and Yana. I have a kinda of a problem with my leg this days (probably because of cold weather and lot’s of walking for the past week), so it was a bit hard to walk and take pics.

Anyhow, on our way back I got a nice idea to do some train photography, which is about taking pics from the window of a train while it is traveling at a speed closer to 150 km/h. This is something new and very interesting. First of all, the speed of the train makes it hard to focus on something particular, as scenery passes very fast. Second, is actually catching something nice, as you never know what you will see in the next moment. I ended up watching with one eye into the camera and the second one, through the window, into upcoming views. Very interesting experience and I would definitely advice anyone who is into photography to try this one out. While few pics has blinks from the window glass and sometimes loose focus, most of the pics are pretty nice. Another thing which makes this kind of activity great is, again, a fast change of views. At one moment you can see forest, while few seconds later some river and the very next moment a road with cars or station with different people. The actual photo set from my train photography is here, so feel free to check it and give your comments.

I really hope that by next weekend my leg will recover, as we are planning trip to Dusseldorf and possible visit to Keln. So we will have time in a very fast train to shoot more things around as well as quite a few walks down there with friends of hours.

P.S.: As it was raining most the time last week and we didn’t spend much time out, we still managed to do few pics from our balcony, at home and around our office, so I put all of them in another separate photo set here. This set is pretty interesting for it’s collection of Amsterdam wildlife :-)

Amsterdam, 1st of September

I am glad that all school and college time passed for me and 1st September does not look like a nightmare anymore. More over, after week of rains and winds, the sun is finally back and the weather is just perfect, so this weekend promises to be interesting. Finishing our morning coffee and leaving to Nijmegen city, which is a bit more that one hour train journey to see few shops my wife is interesting in and just to have some nice time. Closer to the night, when we are back, I hope to go out for some ribs and beers with friends in Amsterdam. We are also taking our camera with us today, so I bet I will be uploading some nice pics afterwards, but Anyway, while camera uploads coming later, Instagram is still with us, so stay connected :-)

What I really like in Amsterdam, is that there are a lot of nice views to take pictures of. Colors are very intense here, and scenes are just amazing.

Wife blog

Finally my wife decided to drop LJ and got herself a WP blog here. As it always happens she will be spending time getting used to it and I bet there will be few changes in design, plugins and structure here and there, but as the more time passes, the more stable and shaped it will be. We’ve moved all here LJ entries and comments to the blog in order not to loose those nice memories and I really hope that new content will be coming shortly.

Please feel free to add it to your favorite RSS reader or just check it directly from time to time ;-)

Few more site enchansements

  • fixed theme to support menus
  • removed WP Flickr Gallery and replaced photos link to point directly to Flickr
  • some other minor rearrangements

If you see something weird or feel like something is missing – let me know.

Amsterdam, Raining

After a week of shiny weather it finally rains. After living in Cyprus for a while it is a bit strange to see rainy weather for more than a day. From one side it is nice: cool weather, no sun, lot’s of water around, the sound of rain hitting windows and so on. From the other side it puts the mood a bit down, which is weird. Pitty that the rainy weather hit us on weekend, but I hope it will normalize and on the next weekend we will go out somewhere with our camera to take pictures of nice places in Amsterdam and surroundings.
